Nursery Architecture Design
This delightful nursery architecture design adapted and renovated an existing bank building to provide private nursery accommodation, catering for babies and pre-school children.
The existing bank building sits in a prominent location within the centre of Carluke and our original brief was to retain as much of the existing building as possible with extensions where necessary to accommodate additional accommodation.
The existing building had been extended twice in the past with single storey extensions to the side and rear and the site was landlocked with limited parking/dropoff and garden areas. The simple solution was to extend above the existing extensions, with minimal interventions to the existing structure and an obvious split between the historic and modern parts of the building.
The building is also separated into babies on the ground floor and older children on the upper, for ease of access for buggies and noise separation. There was also an opportunity to create an enclosed, external garden area on the upper level which provides a completely secure outside play area. This upper garden has a variety of windows set at different heights and sizes to allow the children views out. The front of this space also has a large picture window, providing an opportunity for the nursery to advertise the space available and to minimise the impact on the existing building
