We were commissioned by the clients to design luxury holiday cabins that would form part of a phased masterplan to provide holiday and event accommodation on their land in rural Ayrshire.
The clients wished to provide a ‘pioneer’ experience with individually designed cabins on a relatively remote site, accessed by private track through a forest. The cabins themselves are based on an American western typology, with an emphasis on outdoor living, reflected in the large, covered external seating areas, external fireplaces and extensive decking around each cabin. The cabins themselves are constructed from locally sourced timber, waney board larch cladding and red cedar roof shingles. Internally, the spaces are compact with sleeping accommodation provided on a mezzanine with an open plan living kitchen below.
While part of an overall scheme, the cabins are all located to provide private views of the sea and feel very private.
Due for completion in 2021, they will form the first phase on the overall development scheme
