Caprington Castle Listed Building Refurbishment

Client William Cuninghame

Refurbishment and Alteration

Caprington Castle is one of the last privately owned castles in Scotland and is home to the Cuninghame Family, who have been in residence since 1425. The property is Grade A listed and was originally a keep before being incorporated into a castellated mansion around 1829. The building is a fascinating mix of history and architecture, with the last large renovation between the wars involving examples of art deco interiors and the installation of a private elevator.

We were employed by the current owners to look at converting a derelict wing into accommodation for a housekeeper and to refurbish an ornate, cast-iron orangery.

We obtained Listed Building and Planning Permission, but the scheme was ultimately put on hold pending the outcome of other developments within the estate.
